Longbridges Nature Park in Oxford.

Arrived in Oxford, early in the morning and as I got into my kayak there were literally dozens of rowing boats pacing up and down the Thames. I have parked in Donnington and headed upriver against the flow. On the left, I came to a quiet leafy green waterway leaving the main Thames with an arched bridge over the entrance. It was 2017 when I began photographing the Thames from source to sea from a kayak. Having been paddling on the central London River Thames for over twenty years I felt it was time to explore the rest of this intriguing river. The kayak often gives me a very different perspective of the river to that seen from the banks. I can get into nooks and crannies not otherwise accessible to photograph from underneath pontoons, between houseboats, and get close to river furniture and wildlife.

For many years, I worked as a professional photographer, photographing wild places and urban spaces for editorial and corporate clients.

During the pandemic, I began drawing again, something I hadn’t done much of since leaving art school, where I did a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration (BA Hons) at Kingston University. I am now an abstract artist and my work is centered around my experiences with photographing water.
